Lisa Hyper looks back on Empire days, claims Kartel could have achieved more
Former Portmore Empire starlet, Lisa Hypercontinues to reflect on what could have been with the "Gaza" group as well as its revered leader.
Hyper, whose real name is Felicia Gordon, was renowned for singles such as Paper, Bills, amongst other songs when she hailed as a member of Kartel's crew from 2007-2009. However, Kartel kicked Lisa Hyper out of the group in December 2009 shortly after a sex scandal had rocked the internet.
Now, three years removed from that situation,Hyper still employs lessons she's learnt from herEmpire days within her re-modeled image. During an interview with TVJ's Entertainment Report, the Dancehall diva intimated that the "Gaza"camp's environment was very competitive; where members literally and figuratively fought for respect.
"Gaza was really a battle field. The motto was fight for what you you believe in. It was really a learning process," she said.
Lisa Hyper also spoke on the predicament of her former mentor, Vybz Kartel, who faces two murder charges and two obstruction of justice related charges, amongst others, following his initial arrest last September. Hyper claims that Kartel's situation does not surprise her; implying that if the self-proclaimed "Worl’ Boss" wasn't easily influenced by the wrong people, he could have achieved more as an artiste.
"It's sad. I know his family, know his son. I feel him cudda be a great entertainer if certain things just leave out certain people," she said.
"Him no have good people 'round him. Right now, he's his own enemy."
Meanwhile, Hyper plans to unveil her new album later this year; a project featuring the former Empire starlet exploring different genres, including hip-hop, pop as well as R&B. She says this album will help make her an international brand as she looks to take the next step in her career development.
"Mi getting ready to put out some videos. I'm promoting me not only as an entertainer but as a brand."
